| Welcome
to the Bull Street Neighborhood.
Currently the neighborhood
is in the form of a detailed
land use plan created
by Andres Duany of Duany,
Plater-Zyberk and Company.
This plan is the result
of an intensive eight-day
charrette held in Columbia,
South Carolina. During
this charrette, scores
of interested citizens,
city and state officials,
historic preservationists,
community leaders and
many others provided
input on how they would
like to see the 178-acres
developed.
The land use plan
began in December of
2004 when South Carolina
Governor Mark Sanford
and Columbia City Mayor
Bob Coble asked Central
Carolina Community
Foundation to facilitate
a process whereby a
land use plan for the
178-acre Mental Health
Hospital campus would
be developed. Key was
creating a process
that allowed all interested
parties to share their
opinions on how to
best use the property.
Central Carolina Community
Foundation responded
enthusiastically to
this request by establishing
a Steering Committee.
As a responsible steward
of the community, Central
Carolina Community
Foundation saw this
opportunity to be a
part of having a far-reaching
impact on the future
of the capital city
of the state. |
